Great music is destined to migrate. That's certainly true of the string band music of Transylvania, which has traveled far beyond Romania and is now played and cherished in places like the United States. Playing this music is a genuine expression of appreciation rather than appropriation. Far from taking the music away from its roots, this kind of cultural sharing honors a beautiful tradition.  

There is something basic and human about music that transcends all boundaries -- ideological, geographical, and political -- that brings people together.
